Come Celebrate The Snob Turning 'Forty-Fine' This Thursday in Brooklyn!
Dresses & Drama is on this Thursday, Oct. 8th, in Brooklyn. Plus, Black journalists can't catch a break, and Story Time with T-Pain.
It's the last year of my 40s, and I feel fine! Like ... forty-fine. (Which is just 49. I'm turning 49, y'all!)
But really. I'm OK about it!
I'm one of those folks who LOVES their birthday, and I throw some kind of party every year. This year is no different, as I'm hosting my Dresses & Drama event on my actual birthday, starting at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at 94 Saratoga Ave., in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
Shoot me an email today to RSVP!

While I'm selling A LOT of new and gently used dresses (from size 12 to 20), I also have purses, sweaters, work clothes, tennis outfits, leather knee-high boots (all shoes are women's size 9 or 10), denim, and more. I even have pieces by Farm Rio and Theory with the tags still on that have never been worn. I also have quite a few items from Black designers, including Fe Noel, Diarrablu, and Israella Kobla.
Everything MUST go, and I'm selling it all at 50% off retail or more! Let's make a deal!
During the event, I'll be serving olive oil cake slices, sparkling wine, and lots of conversation. And while I'd love for you to buy something, it's also perfectly OK to just stop by, have some cake, and make a friend!
I'll be there chopping it up until I run out of items to sell or 8 p.m.
Whichever happens first!
Snob Takes
THE NEWSROOM APOCALYPSE IS NIGH: The Paramount-Warner Bros. merger went through today, so I thought it was time to dust off my advice to journalists still working in the belly of their respective beasts. First tip? Document everything. You never know when it'll come down to your word versus the machine. (Survivor: Newsroom Apocalypse Edition)
YOUNG, GIFTED, AND UNEMPLOYED: In this opinion piece I wrote for Poynter, I break down how my career has been no "crystal stair," but it might be instructive for the many promising, young Black journalists struggling to find employment. Remember, kids, only 6 percent of all working journalists are Black, and that number just keeps getting smaller as you go higher up the food chain. So plan your careers accordingly and get in where you fit in. (Advice for Young, Black Journalists From An OG Snob)
'STORY TIME' WITH T-PAIN: Last week, my first premium content went up for paid subscribers, and it was the tale of that one time I learned how to "make it rain" with T-Pain in a Honolulu strip club. I was dressed for a tea party, not throwing ass in a circle, but I made it work! Become a paid subscriber today to support THE BLACK SNOB and read more stories, like this week's feature, which will be about that time in 2011 when I auditioned to host a talk show on BET, only to learn the fix was in! My competition was none other than Marc Lamont Hill and T.J. Holmes. Child, I never had a chance! (T-Pain Taught Me How to Throw Ones in A Honolulu Strip Club)
